MYTHS ABOUT SHOES

CAN MY HORSE BE BAREFOOT?

MY HORSE NEEDS SHOES?

EXTREMELY HELPFUL HINTS

Great Barefoot article!

Bear Bottom
Bear (teenage Tb) came to us from Middleburg, Virginia lame on his right fore in October 2005. His front shoes were removed and I began trimming him on a four week trim cycle and by January 2006 he was sound. This picture was taken in July 2006 at an A rated show in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. He placed second in this 3'0 - 3'3" class and was shown at jumper shows successfully all of the 2006 season. He is now owned by Peggy Diego and is still very sound and productive.

Dehere's Mint (Chewy)
Chewy (9 yo Tb) had been lame in shoes for two years and the owner had tried all the usual advice given by numerous veteranarians, pads, bar shoes, etc. with no improvement. Chewy came to me at the point where even glued on shoes wouldn't stay on. I began trimming him barefoot in September 2005 and by March 2006 he was sound. He had a very successful hunter show season in 2006 and is now owned by Tanya Lowe. Rider: Andrea Noseck.  UPDATE:  Sadly, Chewy died of colic in 2007. RIP: Chewy
