Piper a 2005 Andalusian Arabian Paint cross. When I purchased her in Nov.(08) she had never been trimmed in her life. As you can see from the before and after trim shots, she needed a trim. But though the crack(s) may have looked ugly, they were not bothering her a bit since barefoot horses wear their hooves to the proper angles naturally. Horses in shoes are stuck with whatever a farrier locks in which can be very uncomfortable if the trim is not good. Piper is being broke to ride by me (Natalie) and I plan to show her later this year. Lovely mover! UPDATE: Piper is now owned by Jessie Loutoo who is showing her this winter, 2009, in her first green eventing classes! She's doing great and does not know that "horses are supposed to have shoes". Go Jessie and Piper!
